With many roads in Bristol named after famous people, or perhaps people who think they are famous, it's a little bit sad to find a road just named after another place in the British Isles, but that can't be too pretentious! I shouldn't have been there today, but because the vendor did not realise that I wanted to look in the roof space above the flat over his,(he probably wasn't told), he made no effort to get me in. The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors now says, in their wisdom that "If there is no access to the roof within the subject property - (just?) don't bother!" I, and many other surveyors disagree; we are not serving our Clients properly if we do not make as a thorough and inspection as possible, so I left and will deal with this one day next week, when I can get in to it. It was all a bit frustrating but, another of my Clients benefited because I was able to look at their property instead of this, in an unpretentious road in Bishopston. The house was fine and I liked it, so of course does my Client who has realised there is some damp with which to content, but does not realise that there is rather more damp that needs to be sorted out. I am sure in this instance of that, "where there's a will there's a way", and so I hope this is the case here.
