Owned the land on which these houses were built in the 1870’s, which is no doubt the reason why the road was named after them. Most if not all of these substantial houses have been converted into self contained flats. The flat that I saw today, actually a maisonette was at the top of the building that was very close to an exploding bomb in the last war, but there was little evidence of any structural faults.
